Lady Louise's A-List Life

Freud, comparisons and the virgin suicides

I really seem to be falling behind just lately folks with updating the old blog... I'm sorry, if any of you are looking out for updates, I must get better at this. The truth is that between counselling courses, finishing off the curtain course, the gym and work, I never seem to have much time lately.

So it's almost the weekend, yey. Lastnight was session 5 of my counselling course, I'm halfway through and still enjoying it. I've been going every week with mum and I think both of us have become particularly interested in psychodynamics (Freud)... mum bought a book the other day from Borders which is simply called Freud: The interpretation of dreams, so I'm waiting for her to finish it before I read it. As part of the course we also have to do reflective writing, I think actually that having a blog has helped me on this because I'm always reflecting on this aren't I? So anyway, so far I'm getting good marks on my journal! so hopefully it won't be too long before I have another certificate to add to my growing list. Lastnight though we were examining 'Cognitive behaviour therapy'... one exercise was to relate to some common behavoural patterns which were distributed, I related to several. One was Comparing, basically I do compare myself to everything and everyone, if someone looks beautiful in a magazine, I compare why they look beautiful and why I need to look like that, if I speak to someone super intelligent I compare my intelligence levels and try to learn how I could aspire to being as intelligent and so on. I'm not sure, is this a social conditioning I mean, it's so frequent now that you know of people getting plastic surgery/ anorexia/ ridiculous debt... is all of this a product of comparative behaviour? I'm sure some magazines are partly to blame too... for example, try finding a weekly magazine without a diet section in it does that suggest we should all be the svelte size 8-10? Particularly when the front cover is emblazoned with images of a consumpted appearing Posh spice, or Nicole Richie... I guess to some extent it is related to the superego discussed by Freud... but what did we aspire to before we compared ourselves with others... anyway, now you know one of the weaknesses of my character... I do think that is one of the downsides of this course, you start trying to psycho analyse yourself... and others Anyway, I've dwelled far too long on the behavoural trait, so I won't divulge my others or I will bore you stupid.

So what else have I been doing this week I hear you cry, other that trying (and failing miserably) to become the thinnest, most beautiful, most intelligent person in the world so that everyone has to compare themselve to me Well I bought a book called 'the virgin suicides'. I believe it's a film now, I'm halfway through it, and I have to say Jeffrey Eugenides is a fantastic writer, I really am glued to it, and I can't even say it's a rollercoaster ride of a story, it's just the style of writing, it's an absolute pleasure to read. Briefly it's about this family of girls (the Lisbon's) in America who have been kept in a strict religious upbringing with a strict matriarch and as one commits suicide, the others begin rebelling... some are a bit odd and they all seem a mystery to the surrounding community... as I say I am only halfway through it so I can't really divulge any more, but it is good. Other than that I have just been trying to finish of my curtain making coursework. Looking forward to the weekend though... although I am broke, but I need the rest... and the time to finish my book. Have a nice weekend folks.

P.S I didn't get the job

 shopping, shopping, interviews

Right, this is the update part 2 then seeing as it’s been so long since I have bothered to share what is going on in my life with you folks… have any of you missed me? Lol

Right, then, I’ll start at Saturday just gone. It was like a family day out, me, Peter, my mum and his 2 children all went to Birmingham for a day shopping. I have to say whenever I get to Birmingham I’m a bit of a hardcore shopper and I’m not really used to having children in the company… but both of them are little angels. His little girl is just at that age where she is all excited about shopping and fashion, and being taken around such exciting shops I think she loved it. His little boy is just wonderful, not spoilt at all, every now and then when we remembered we took him into a computer games shop or a sports shop, I hope he enjoyed it because us ladies were getting a little carried away with the designer shops.

Our first aim was to go to Louis Vuitton… I think they were amazed at the expensive lines, then onto House of Frasier, Selfridges, and some other shops to shop for an outfit for non- uniform day… she ended up settling on a lovely pair of cropped cargo pants, I feel that my fashion knowledge might finally be appreciated ;o) We had a wonderful time… we didn’t get home until late, tired and shopped out (although my funds didn’t actually allow me to purchase anything), I did spot some lovely Dior shoes though, and some J-Lo shoes, and some fantastic irregular choice shoes… they looked just like Vivienne Westwood ones and at only £50 I think I may go back for those if I can sort my finances out! That night though, I was dreaming of MP3 players because that is what we were shopping for, for the childrens birthday’s… lol.

Sunday was spent swotting, you see I had an interview for a new job on Monday… I really don’t know if I got it, I think the interview went ok, but I don’t find out the result until next week… oh I do hope I get it, I really want it and think I would do it so well, please blog fans, keep your fingers crossed for me. It would be nice, and then I would have reason to go back and get those irregular choice shoes ;o)

Aside from going to the gym, the rest of the week has been pretty tame… but who knows what the weekend holds, I haven’t any plans at the moment though! If it’s nice I may get my bucket BBQ out and experiment, also need to do the garden which is in a dire mess… oh when did my life become so not A-list… I must rectify this situation immediately, perhaps if I read tattler now, it will give me inspiration!

Oooh, I forgot to add, I’ve put some blonde in my hair, yey!

Ko Poda, Chester, Audi and Beemer

Well folks, it’s been a hell of a long time since I updated my blog… I bet you thought I fell off the earth… well I didn’t, however it may take me a while to remember everything I have done!

Lets start with Bank Holiday weekend, what a busy weekend that was. It has been ages since I have been to a nightclub, and so I managed to talk Peter into accompanying me for a night on the town… the weather was starting to buck up, at long long last, so I pulled my black silk halter neck dress out of the cupboard and dressed up nicely. Mum came along for a couple of hours too… it’s been such a long time since she went out because she has been so ill, so it was really nice to see her out and about again, although she didn’t drink or go to the nightclub. She headed off home when we were going the nightclub and then we went to Ko Poda we didn’t stay too long, long enough for a bit of a boogy before heading home!

I can’t remember what I did on the Sunday, but Monday me Peter and mum went to Chester. I drove for a change, usually I leave that to Peter, but I love driving, talking of which we have been looking at cars lately, there are 2 I absolutely adore, but I don’t know that I will ever afford either of them, on is the Audi A4 cabriolet

The other is the BMW M series Cabriolet:

So, my 2 dream cars! Sorry I’m drooling over my keyboard now!

Back to Chester, the weather wasn’t too wonderful, but it is a lovely town, I’m really glad that I went! Nice old buildings and some nice shops, I didn’t buy anything, well not much, only some bits and bobs from Crabtree and Evelyn, but that’s because I have no dosh. The Cathedral was nice though, definitely worth a visit!

 Yoga, Othello and German

Well folks, I’ve had an eventful couple of days… I’m sure you are dying for me to share!

As those of you know who follow my blog regularly I have joined a gym. Well on a Tuesday evening me and my boyfriend do Tai Chi there, and we have really been enjoying, when lo and behold we noticed that they are offering Yoga on the same evening, immediately after… so we thought we would do the 2 classes, one after the other. Can I just share that I still feel as though I have been beaten up today…. And that is 2 days later! The teacher came in, about the build of Geri Haliwell in her yoga days, and she was so flexible, but really I’m sure the level of the class was far higher than we expected… an hour and half of standing on heads, contorting bodies and sweating and finally it was over…. Never again! I love yoga Barbara Currie style, with the videos, but this woman was some sort of gymnast, and I’m aching all over… I might just about stop aching by tomorrow for my Friday night gym workout, so I’m not going through that torture again!

Last night was Othello… there is a tale behind this though. The RSC is running a year long season of all of the Shakespeare plays… I thought it would be great to go to Othello as I had studied it at school when I did my A-levels. Unfortunately it wasn’t until our tickets arrived that I noticed the footnote on them ‘This performance is in German’…. Ah… I don’t speak German. Well this has been the subject of much amusement of my colleagues over the past week… but I don’t care, I was determined to go anyway. I’m really glad I did as well, for those of you who do not know the story of Othello, it’s about an older, black general (Othello) who marries a young, white diplomat’s daughter (Desdemona). However Roderigo loves Desdemona, so Iago (probably the best ever villain in Shakespeare) concocts all these situations that end up driving Othello to despair and situations where almost all of the characters end up murdered… actually it wasn’t until lastnight I realised just how risqué this play is… I’m sure studying it when I was 16 years old was wasted! Anyway, the play was updated shall we say, and there were subtitles on screens, great for those of us who do not speak German…. All I can say is it was really enjoyable and really gritty. That has to be one of Shakespeare’s best!
